![]() There’s some sort of innocence in every scene, perhaps springing from the fact that you – as the little boy – are meant to approach these puzzles in a more or less candid way. The art style and overall design is meant to convey a horror-like experience, but not a frightening one. There are also a few scenes with flashing lights that could be bothersome for more sensitive players and the game warns in the beginning about these two aspects.Īlthough Happy Game is grotesque, it all sounds worse than it is. ![]() ![]() For those easily disturbed a warning is in order, since some of these puzzles involve not only putting together decapitated toys, or on the contrary, tearing them apart in half, but also beheading bunny-like beasts with a bladed guillotine or throwing them into the meat grinder. Solving the puzzles will require you to summon your dark side, since you’ll be pulling heads, eyes, tongues and any other tuggable parts from all sorts of creatures. Unlike other titles from Amanita, the gameplay focuses less on solving puzzles / finding out the way all the contraptions work (which by the way, now take shape as scary, unfriendly creatures) and shifts towards experiencing the game as an artistic creation, in a more cinematic way. Hideous monsters will hunt you down, creepy toys will surround you and the screens will overall be covered in blood spots and other gooey substances. ![]() In Happy Game you follow the adventures of a little boy trapped in his nightmares. Yet it’s still an Amanita game, and it has mainly the same style and design, and it’s undoubtedly a piece of art like any of their other titles. It’s dark, macabre, gory and it’s pretty much the antithesis of what we’re used to when it comes to Amanita games. ![]()

![]() But this month, he has recordings on his mind, since the Prestige label – which most faithfully caught his sound in the 1950s – is celebrating its own 60th birthday by reissuing some of its landmark material. ![]() Since the 1970s, when he began to broaden his popular appeal, his records have rarely mirrored the power and imagination of his live shows. Rollins's devotion to the immediacy of performance has always made him indifferent to recording. Ironically, he practises so that he can be spontaneous – able to play instantly anything he thinks or feels in the moment. He is not a frustrated classical musician, but says he has always respected the discipline, rigour and endless practice such music requires. He and his friend and admirer John Coltrane, another saxophone giant whose vision was focused on something far beyond the next gig, used to discuss eastern philosophy and exchange books on the subject.ĭuring his childhood, Rollins's siblings were taught classical music "while I was out playing ball". On the lengthy sabbaticals he took from playing, he devoted himself to solitary practice, studied Zen meditation in Japan, and even withdrew to a monastery in India. Such thinking fits with the more unlikely diversions in Rollins's career. This has it." His plan is to have his rhythm section play with a Native American beat, while he improvises over the top. I hate the word 'spiritual' because it's been so overused, but I've always wanted something beyond the secular in music. I'm interested in the social context of it, too, in Native American culture. It's giving me more ability to express myself, and I'm trying to get my band to feel it. It's not a loose, swinging beat Native American music is solid, not so expansive. It's different to what we know from jazz. "If you've ever heard any Native American music, there's a repetitive sort of a beat to it, but paradoxically it's very freeing. "Let me tell you what I do want to do," Rollins says, warming to his theme. He continues: "Of course, I still want to use everything I've learned, everything I copied from other people, whose shoulders I stood on."Those people include the biggest names in the history of jazz: Thelonious Monk, Rollins's neighbour when he was growing up in Harlem the young Miles Davis, who thought Rollins's improv skills came close to Charlie Parker's and Coleman Hawkins, pioneer of the tenor saxophone. His thoughts unfold as a series of feints and weaves, as full of parentheses and afterthoughts as one of his own improvisations, delivered in a calloused, gravelly tone that echoes the low-end sound of his sax. But if I look back on my career, I've been centred on a narrow – I don't mean that pejoratively – way of playing, a narrow field: bebop and hard bop, all that kind of stuff." Rollins's conversation never takes a straight route. I've been working on music all my life, I'm always working on it. ![]() I wouldn't say they're completely different. Well, that's the wrong way to put it, perhaps. But, says Rollins: "I have some new ideas now. ![]() The crowds who sell out his concerts months before they happen would doubtless be happy for him to keep doing what he's doing, playing his signature themes – Don't Stop the Carnival, St Thomas – until he drops. He still practises every day at his farmhouse in Germantown, upstate New York, does yoga and watches his diet, but the Rollins I spoke to was also taking stock, thinking it was time for some changes. The biggest star of this year's London Jazz festival, which opens on Friday, Rollins tends to save his loquacity for his saxophone but he recently found time, after a run of American and European concerts, to talk. ![]() ![]() ![]() YouTube automatically generates an image for every video ( ), so we can use that and link the image to the video on YouTube. The rendered output looks like this: Table of Contents You can separate paragraphs within a table cell by using one or more HTML tags. For example, if you need to display Pi (π), just find the symbol on a webpage and copy and paste it into your document. However, in most cases, you can copy and paste whatever symbol you want to use into your Markdown document. Markdown doesn’t provide special syntax for symbols. So if you stick four instances of before a paragraph, the paragraph will look like it’s indented four spaces. Basically, every in your Markdown source will be replaced with a space in the rendered output. ![]() This should probably be your option of last resort as it can get awkward. It also provides template customization options so that you can make the rendered document look the way you expect it to, indentation and all.Īnother option, if your Markdown processor supports HTML, is to use the HTML entity for non-breaking space ( ). For example, iA Writer allows you to customize indentation settings for the editor in the application preferences. This is common in applications that are more oriented towards desktop publishing. The bottom line is the app is on solid ground. Don't worry if you didn't get all of that. The Android app was developed in 2013 by Automattic and they host the Simperium sync infrastructure. Simperium also developed the sync service that Simplenote uses. The service was created in 2008 by Simperium so it is not new and there are still updates being made. RichUpĪnother free online game that’s like Monopoly is RichUp. ![]() It’s definitely one to try if you want fast Monopoly-style gameplay on your PC. And unlike Monopoly, this one’s NOT made in China. Rento is so popular that they’ve even now released a physical board game version that you can order online. Rento even allows virtual reality play, so if you have a VR headset you can step right into the board! Here’s what that looks like… PC players can play against anyone no matter the version they’re using. Rento is available to download on mobile and consoles too. There are multiple boards to choose from, in-depth customizable rules (which you can tailor in a lot more ways than you can with Monopoly Plus), and it’s cross-platform too. The game is still a lot more basic than Monopoly in terms of graphics but the options available are pretty staggering. And if you aren’t someone who is too obsessed with the official game then it might have a valid argument. Rento is a proudly unofficial version of Monopoly that actually claims to be the best version of Monopoly – even better than the original. If you don’t play Monopoly too often, then trying these free options will save you money, but don’t expect a great experience. And when you play against friends, these games don’t have stable servers, so you’re more likely to drop the connection. They might offer online multiplayer, but they won’t have the player numbers for you to regularly join games against strangers. Some of the free Monopoly games will use the correct property names too, although how long these games will be available is questionable – there’s probably a copyright claim waiting in the wings!Īnd that’s where the biggest issue is with these free unofficial Monopoly games – they’re not reliable. They’ll also be less demanding on your hardware, so if you do have an older machine then it might be preferable. These are unofficial, and a lot more basic in terms of graphical style, but that might not be a concern for you. If you head to the official Microsoft Store, you’ll be able to search for Monopoly and find a few different versions of the game to download – many of them are free. Even though ‘Monopoly Plus’ is the same game on PlayStation and Xbox consoles (the Nintendo Switch version is slightly different), there’s no cross-play, which is a shame. The only downside is that Monopoly Plus isn’t cross-platform – you can only play against other PC users. It’s got solid support for online gaming with a good-sized community – this means you won’t have to wait forever to find a game to join.Īnd you’ll get a couple of options for classic and living boards too, to give you even more variety. There have been many official versions of Monopoly video games over the years for PC and this is the latest one, released in 2014.
